Reflections of a Summer Student

Table of Contents

When I began working at Jasmine Daya & Co. last summer, I was largely new to the law firm environment and the personal injury field. As I begin my second summer as a student at the firm, I can safely say that I have learned a great deal, met wonderful people, and confirmed my interest in this area of law.

I have had the opportunity to work on numerous different tasks and see the inner workings of a law firm first hand. Whether my assignments have involved correspondence with clients or counsel, research, administrative work, or drafting court materials, I have been able to see client files at all stages of proceedings and have come to understand the hard work required at every stage. As a student entering my third year of law school, I have found that a legal education emphasizes theory much more than the practical skills needed to work at a firm. I, therefore, consider my position at Jasmine Daya & Co. crucial to my intellectual and professional development.

Being smaller in size than other firms, there is a noticeable sense of community among coworkers. The staff and lawyers alike have always made me feel very welcome and have all taken time out of their days to explain concepts and tasks to me. It was made very clear to me early on that the lawyers here truly care about their clients and reaching a just result for them. Moving forward on files takes teamwork, diligence, and organization, all of which are skills I have seen exhibited in the tireless work of firm employees. My work experience at Jasmine Daya & Co. has confirmed my belief that the people make the place.
